Youth Groups' Current Study:

They Like Jesus, But Not the Church

(a Bible study by Dan Kimball)

"Many people today, especially young emerging generations, don't resonate with the church and organized Christianity. Some are leaving the church, and others were never part of the church in the first place. Sometimes it's because of misperceptions about the church. Yet often, they are still spiritually open and fascinated with Jesus." - Dan Kimball

We are looking at 6 of these common misperceptions, what they are, how they are perpetuated, and how we, as believers, can counter them by living out a biblical, Christ-centered faith. Join us!

"Finding God in Stranger Things"

(a Bible study for upperclassmen & young adults)

Thursdays in the chapel

6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. (watch party)

7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. (discussion)

(come for both segments or just one)

The Netflix series Stranger Things has taken our culture by storm. As a nostalgic nod to those who grew up in the ’80s, this horror/sci-fi series brings a group of misfit best friends together to find their missing friend and take on the product of a secret government lab, all while trying to save their small town. It has become a quick cult-favorite.

September 17, we launched an 8-week study of and watch party for Stranger Things (season 1). As dark as the series seems to be, we can learn a lot about the human condition, our brokenness, and our need for saving. In short, we are looking at how Stranger Things conveys the gospel message. This Bible study happens on Thursday nights and is available for in-person and remote participation. This study requires a Netflix account if you join us remotely and parent permission slips for any participants under the age of 18. This is an awesome time for those who have never seen the series to watch it and discuss its merits. And for those of you who have already seen it, this is an eye-opening experience for you to see how God can reveal himself in STRANGE otherly places you might not have thought of before. You need to sign up for this offering. To reserve a spot and get a permission slip, please email Jason or call/text him at (714) 809-5065. Questions and concerns welcome.

Confirmation and Baptism Class

beginning Sunday, October 25

in Lower Langill Hall 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.

Confirmation and Baptism Class will begin Sunday, October 25. This experience is for any 7th-grade student (or older) to intentionally walk through the foundations of their faith and confirm the vows their parents took at their baptism. If you have not been baptized, this class will serve as the necessary instructional guide for your adoption into God's family. The 13-week course will be spread out over the upcoming year, culminating around Easter. It will be taught by Pastor David, Pastor Brad, Jason Pridmore, and other church leaders and mentors. The class will include small group experiences, as well as service projects and opportunities. Confirmation class is more of a journey than anything else, and we are excited to walk alongside you through this experience. For more information or to register, please email Jason or call/text him at (714) 809-5065.

Mission Trip: In the summer, a team of chaperones and youth travels for a week of service and growth.

Camp Surf: Camp Surf is a retreat at a beach house for our youth and chaperones in late July/early August. Surfing is available (along with lessons for anyone who would like to learn—our youth director is an avid surfer and a great teacher!), but even more important than the surfing and beach activities, this is a time of fellowship, team

building, and leadership—preparing youth for our upcoming year of ministry.
